Skin Health Information Sessions in Underserved Communities
Access to dermatology is limited in many minority communities, resulting in numerous racial and socioeconomic health disparities.
Research shows that Black and Latinx communities are more likely to be diagnosed with melanoma at later stages, less likely to receive systemic treatment for psoriasis, and more likely to have active atopic dermatitis when compared to white populations. Celebrating the Skin We're In” is an initiative led by Fatuma-Ayaan Rinderknecht, a medical student at UC San Francisco School of Medicine, who is passionate about improving access to dermatology care.
This organization aims to teach young people from underserved areas how to take care of and protect their skin. We hope that by providing these educational resources we can work to improve skin health and reduce disparities in dermatology.
